Dog Of The Month
Who Are We?
We are a small Dog Rescue group, serving the Birmingham / West Midlands and Surrounding areas, we were set up by Lisa, she has helped in boarding kennels for around 10yrs & has been involved in Obedience, Flyball, Agility and Working Trials for the past 16yrs & has instructed at training classes for the past 10yrs. During this time she had been asked to help home many dogs that have either been left in kennels or from owners that have decided the dogs are too much for them. She also helped in various rescues for a number of years. Lisa decided to try & do more to help by setting up a small rescue group helping dogs in need. RLR are based in Birmingham & have dedicated helpers in the form of a friendly private boarding kennel, fosterers & volunteers, all of which are willing to board/foster, help home, transport, do vet runs & raise funds where necessary, we are always needing transporters & fosterers, they are vital to what we do - Please understand the kennels we use are not our own, we have to pay per night for any dogs we have in there, please be aware of this if you are asking us to take your dog as we are determined by how many dogs we can afford to have in kennels at that time, also if you are asking us for paid work or school/college work experience as we as a rescue cannot offer this
We adopt a non destruct policy where possible, but in some exceptional circumstances and where the Vet deems that the animal is suffering and there are no other options available, the animal would be humanely euthanised.
At present we do not have the resources or space to take in lots of
dogs at once, but we will endeavor to help wherever we can. If we are unable to
help we will provide advice on alternative options.
Ruff Luck Rescue take dogs from council pounds where they have served their 7
days, once this period is over they need to find a rescue space or they will be
PTS. This is where we step in, many of the pounds are quite a distance away and
we would be very grateful if anyone could spare a few hours a
week/fortnight/month to meet at a designated spot to collect the dogs coming
from the pounds. All we ask is that you have somewhere secure for the dog/s
whilst travelling, we also take dogs from their homes if
circumstances change, when people die and from Social Services.
We are always looking for volunteers to help fundraise, foster,
transport or walking the rescue dogs we have in kennels, any
fundraising ideas are more than welcome.
We are struggling to change a line on our website but our dogs will be
vaccinated, chipped and neutered - we ask a min donation of £100 for our male
dogs, £125 for our female dogs and £150 for pups 6mths and under. We offer a
weeks hometrial for all our dogs bar our pups.
We currently take little or no expenses as we wish all the monies raised
to go directly to helping our dogs, so after a lot of thought we have now
decided that as it is so expensive to return phonecalls at the rate
messages are being left and as 99% of the numbers left are mobile numbers, that
the first point of contact needs to made by e-mail or if it is
necessary you can text us, e-mails will be answered within 48hrs (normally
within 24hrs). If you phone please leave a brief message of your
enquiry with your name and number, this is essential, if you just ask us
to call back without telling us why you will have to be at the bottom of the
list, we will get back to you as soon as we can, please appreciate we
are ALL volunteers with fulltime jobs away from the rescue and some
have young families - we therefore ask that you please
call Elaines or the RuffLuck number first between 9.30 - 8pm Mon -
Sat & 10am-3pm on a Sun as Lisa is unable to take calls between
8am -6pm Mon - Fri.
Thank you
